First open the exact degree page and note the A-level offer and any mandatory subjects. Then use Glasgow's USA table to translate that requirement into the applicable SAT/ACT-plus-AP, AP-only, or test-optional route. The headline minimum route is not enough when the program expects stronger grades or a specific subject.
Understand where Scottish flexibility is real
Many Glasgow honours degrees in arts, humanities, social sciences, and science let students study several subjects in Years 1 and 2 before specializing in Years 3 and 4. Glasgow is clear that admission under one UCAS code does not automatically guarantee progression to honours in that subject; performance and school rules still govern progression.

Compare the program, not a generic Glasgow experience
The application and later academic path are course-specific. Families should compare required modules, optional breadth, progression rules, assessment, placements, and professional accreditation. A student drawn to Glasgow's city or architecture still needs a defensible academic reason for the chosen degree.
Build a full four-year budget
Glasgow publishes separate international fee bands for arts and social sciences, science and engineering, and clinical programs. Apply the correct band to the actual course duration, then add accommodation, living expenses, travel, setup costs, and exchange-rate risk. A lower annual fee than another city does not by itself prove a lower total degree cost.
Use the accommodation guarantee correctly
The 2026-27 undergraduate policy guarantees one accommodation offer to eligible new students who apply by 14 July, meet their conditions, hold unconditional-firm status by the stated August deadline, and study for the full academic year. The guarantee does not promise a preferred residence and does not automatically continue after first year.
Who Glasgow may—and may not—suit
Glasgow can suit a student who wants a large research university, a substantial city, Scottish academic breadth, and an active student environment. It may be less comfortable for someone seeking a small collegiate community or a contained US-style campus. The scale is an advantage only when the student is ready to use it independently.
